Guangchao Geng is an Associate Professor (Ph.D. Advisor) at College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2009 and 2014, respectively. From 2012 to 2013, he was a visiting student at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Iowa State University, Ames, United States. From 2014 to 2017, he is a post-doctoral fellow at the College of Control Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada. In 2017, he joined the faculty of the College of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

He serves as the vice director of the Department of Electrical Engineering since 2022 and the vice director of the Institute of Power System Automation since 2020. He is a Senior Member of IEEE since 2019.

He has participated in a number of research projects as PI or co-PI, supported by multiple funding agencies, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Research and Development Program of China as well as various industry partners. He has published more than 100 technical papers, including more than 50 journal papers indexed by SCI, two best conference paper awards and one ESI high-impact paper, with more than 1900 total citations. He has also applied or been granted over 20 patents as well as 7 software copyrights. He co-authored one book. He serves as associate editor of IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, representative member of CIGRE C2.42 and external reviewer for more than 20 journals. He has been awarded as outstanding reviewer twice.

His research interests include power system stability and control, Internet of Things in power systems, high performance computing in power systems, artificial intelligence in power systems, energy storage in power systems.
